Theoretically, it is a good way to save, but it can give the desired effect only when all necessary conditions for storage of diesel fuel are fully met. However, containers are not always air tight, so various mechanical substances get into fuel and it comes into contact with atmospheric oxygen. As a result, such fuel is oxidized, darkens and loses its operational properties. Driving on such fuel can be dangerous for engine and fuel system.
It is not difficult to notice the loss of oil product quality, but how to correct the situation and not to lose the money previously invested in the purchase? Using special equipment for purification of relatively small amounts of petroleum product is economically unfeasible, so you have to think about cleaning diesel fuel at home. You can use several methods. Of course, they are not original and innovative, but they can help in many cases.
Diesel fuel can be purified using a simple separator, operating on the principle of a centrifuge. This device at one time was very popular, but it was eventually supplanted by fuel-oil filters that provide a better quality of cleaning. Diesel fuel is forced through a separator, after that it should settle for a defined period of time. The appearance of turbid sediment is an indicator of the beginning of further actions. Further it is necessary to slowly pour the fuel through cheesecloth into a clean container.
Freezing out with sulfuric acid can also be used as a method of diesel fuel purification. Taking into account the nature of sulfuric acid, this method can be considered quite risky. But since such treatment is theoretically possible, we can not but mention it. To implement this method, sulfuric acid is very carefully poured into a container with diesel fuel. The ratio is 1:10. After this, the container should be shaken and the resulting mixture must be left to settle. In most cases, 24 hours is enough. If everything has been done correctly, you can see the dark precipitate after settling at the bottom of the container. After that you need to perform the familiar procedure: pour the fuel into a clean container through cheesecloth.
The third method is probably the easiest one. But at the same time it is costly. It involves using special additives aimed at increasing fuel cetane number, displacement of water from fuel, cleaning of injectors, prevention of carbon deposits and condensation, etc.
In the cold season water can be removed due to its natural property of freezing at subzero temperatures. It is enough to carry a container with diesel fuel out to the cold, and after the appearance of ice, pour it into a clean and dry container through cheesecloth.
